The next release of the Adobe Creative Suite (CS5) will be capable of creating iPhone apps.

This doesn’t mean that there will be a Flash Player on the iPhone, but it does mean that many Flash designers/developers will be able to create their own apps within Flash and let it do the hard part for them. And you thought there were a lot of iPhone apps already?!

I downloaded my first app created using CS5 (South Park Avatar Creator) and it’s got me extremely excited about the opportunities the new suite will give me.

There’s plenty more info on the flashmagazine.com site, or check out the video on the Adobe Labs site.

Today I’ve taken my first look at Flash CS4 and the thing I have probably been most excited about – bones.

The new Flash is awesome and the bones work like a dream, just one small problem/opportunity for me is that they only work in AS3. It’s about time I pulled my finger out and got my head round it anyway, but the fast approaching deadline for the viral I am putting together which requires bones is slightly worrying. Worth it though just to use these new features. If any designers out there have been putting off learning AS3 then now is the perfect excuse to bite the bullet.

I think actionscript has long been a nifty bonus for designers to know, but is it more and more becoming a given that designers should be better programmers? Or is the grey area between designer and programmer becoming bigger and bigger?

All I know is that it’s a good time to be a designer ;o)
